The level of development in Hiriketiya is insane, even in the last three years it's changed so much. Influencers have been hyping Sri Lanka up as 'the new Bali', so there's little wonder why it's so overtouristed and losing its culture to foreign-owned brunch spots.
It would be so interesting to see what Hiri was like a couple of years ago! I agree, lots of development and lots of generic brunch spots, not only in Hiri. But there are still lots of wonderful and authentic places in Sri Lanka, I hope it escapes the Bali fate 🙏
